महाराष्ट्रातील विद्यार्थ्यांमध्ये वाचनाची आवड आणि वाचनसंस्कृती वाढवण्यासाठी राज्य सरकार ‘रीड महाराष्ट्र’ चळवळ, शाळांमध्ये पुस्तक पेटी योजना आणि डिजिटल ग्रंथालय उपक्रम सुरू करण्याच्या तयारीत आहे.

महाराष्ट्रातील शालेय विद्यार्थ्यांमध्ये वाचनाची आवड वाढावी आणि वाचनसंस्कृती अधिक मजबूत व्हावी यासाठी ‘रीड इंडिया’च्या धर्तीवर ‘रीड महाराष्ट्र’ चळवळ सुरू करण्याचा निर्णय घेण्यात आल्याची माहिती शालेय शिक्षणमंत्री दीपक केसरकर यांनी विधान परिषदेत दिली. या उपक्रमासोबतच प्राथमिक शाळांमध्ये विद्यार्थ्यांना सहजपणे पुस्तके उपलब्ध व्हावीत म्हणून ‘पुस्तक पेटी’ योजना राबवण्याचे नियोजन करण्यात आले आहे.
कमी पटसंख्या असलेल्या शाळांसाठी दोन किंवा अधिक शाळांना मिळून पूर्णवेळ ग्रंथपाल उपलब्ध करून देण्याबाबतचा प्रस्ताव वित्त विभागाकडे पाठवण्यात आल्याचेही सांगण्यात आले. प्रस्तावाला मान्यता मिळाल्यास अशा शाळांमध्ये ग्रंथालय सेवा अधिक प्रभावीपणे उपलब्ध होऊ शकतील.
शालेय शिक्षण अधिक आधुनिक आणि तंत्रज्ञानाधारित करण्याच्या उद्देशाने डिजिटल ग्रंथालय उपक्रम सुरू करण्याचीही योजना आहे. विद्यार्थ्यांसाठी डिजिटल पुस्तके उपलब्ध करून देणे तसेच शाळांमधील संगणक लॅबचा शाळेनंतर डिजिटल ग्रंथालय म्हणून वापर करता येईल का, याचा विचार करण्यात येत असल्याचे लेखात नमूद आहे.
राज्यातील अतिरिक्त पूर्णवेळ ग्रंथपालांचे समायोजन तसेच अर्धवेळ ग्रंथपालांना पूर्णवेळ पदांवर नियुक्त करण्यासंदर्भातील प्रस्तावही वित्त विभागाकडे पाठवण्यात आला होता. ई-ग्रंथालय, पुस्तक पेटी आणि डिजिटल लायब्ररी अशा विविध उपक्रमांमुळे महाराष्ट्रातील विद्यार्थ्यांना पुस्तके, ज्ञान आणि डिजिटल शैक्षणिक साधने अधिक सहज उपलब्ध करून देण्याचा सरकारचा उद्देश असल्याचे या वृत्तातून स्पष्ट होते.
The Maharashtra government announced plans to introduce a ‘Read Maharashtra’ movement, inspired by the ‘Read India’ initiative, with the objective of developing stronger reading habits and a reading culture among schoolchildren.
According to the newspaper report, School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar informed the Maharashtra Legislative Council that a book-box scheme would also be introduced in primary schools. The idea is to make books more easily accessible to children and encourage them to develop an interest in reading from an early age.
The government was also examining ways to strengthen school library infrastructure. For schools with smaller student populations, a proposal had been sent to the Finance Department to consider appointing a full-time librarian jointly for two or more schools. The report said such appointments could become possible after the proposal received approval.
Another major component of the initiative is the development of digital libraries. Digital books are expected to be made available to students, while the government was also considering whether existing school computer laboratories could be used as digital libraries after regular classroom hours.
The report further mentions proposals for the adjustment of surplus full-time librarians and the possible appointment of part-time librarians to full-time posts. Alongside e-libraries and book-box schemes, these measures were presented as part of a broader effort to modernise school education and provide students with better access to books, reading resources and digital learning facilities.
