Speaking at the programme, Pathare described Handabhar Chandanya as a play that helps audiences develop a deeper awareness of life. He observed that meaningful theatre should emerge from local realities, human struggles and experiences connected with the land.
The publication brings together the original script of Handabhar Chandanya and selected writings about the play. It documents the work’s literary, social and theatrical significance, providing readers with both the dramatic text and critical perspectives on its themes and presentation.
Sumati Lande of Shabdalaya Prakashan said the publication fulfilled the desire to preserve the script and the thoughtful responses expressed by theatre experts. Artists associated with the production also presented a dramatic reading during the event.
Prof. Satish Badve, Pramod Gaikwad, publisher Sumit Lande, members of the play’s cast and representatives of the Marathi literary and theatre community attended the ceremony. The publication contributes to the documentation and wider study of contemporary Marathi drama.
